Creating and building Reflection Space to explore human interaction

Prototyping / Arduino / Light behaviour / Design research / Human interaction

As a metaphor for mirroring, my study group and I created Reflection Space. Reflection Space is a physical artefact consisting of two pentagon-shaped parts that, when joined together, trigger some LEDs to light up inside. Reflective Space, which has the shape of a tube and is made in acrylic glass and wood, has 24 warm white LEDs embedded on its inside. 12 LEDs are placed on one side lengthwise, while the other 12 are placed directly opposed to them, creating a symmetrical expression. The idea is to give the interactants an experience of light patterns that copy each others behavior, like the unconscious human act of mirroring.
